New releases: Kelley/Nace; Damon & Naomi...

GREG KELLEY/BILL NACE: Live at Disjecta LP

This past March (2016), Bill Nace and I toured the West Coast of these United States of America performing in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Corvallis OR, Portland, Olympia, Seattle and Vancouver BC. We recorded most of the sets and Daniel Menche was kind enough to record the Portland show. That recording stood out from the rest and Bill has released it as part of the "Live at..." series on his Open Mouth imprint.

Information here.

DAMON & NAOMI: Spirit of Love (B-sides, bonuses, and soundtracks) download

Per Naomi, "Seems we're all in need of the Spirit of Love, so we're making this new comp free (or pay what you wish) via Bandcamp:"

The nmperign horn section makes appearances here on covers of Scott Walker's "The World's Strongest Man" and Irving Berlin's "White Christmas," both of which also feature the wonderful guitar work of Michio Kurihara.

GREG KELLEY: Sonarchy Live stream

In August of this year, I recorded a "live" solo set for Doug Haire's Sonarchy radio show on KEXP, which is available streaming here or via iTunes. This is Doug's live mix, but I also have all the raw tracks should anyone be interested in re-mixing/re-composing/etc.

Seattle shows past & present, November, December...

On Monday, December 5th at 8pm (tonight!), I'll be playing in a trio with percussionist Chris Cogburn (of Austin TX and now Mexico City) and violinist Austin Larkin at Hollow Earth Radio. Lori Goldston will also be performing solo.

On 11/28/16, I played a duo with Bryan Eubanks at Teatro de la Psychomachia. Bryan played soprano saxophone and feedback plate. James Falzone & Wilson Shook also performed.

On 11/19/16, I performed at Town Hall as part of John Cage's Musicircus. I did a solo realization of Cage's Variations III and as part of a quartet with composer Jacob Mashak and two students performing a realization of Four6.

June Nights

June Nights by Victor Hugo
In summer, when day has fled, the plain covered with flowers
Pours out far away an intoxicating scent;
Eyes shut, ears half open to noises,
We only half sleep in a transparent slumber.

The stars are purer, the shade seems pleasanter;
A hazy half-day colours the eternal dome;
And the sweet pale dawn awaiting her hour
Seems to wander all night at the bottom of the sky.

West Coast Tour with Bill Nace, 3/5-12/16

Greg Kelley: trumpet, amplifier, pedals
Bill Nace: electric guitar, amplifier, pedals

Greg Kelley (nmperign, Heathen Shame, The BSC) and Bill Nace (Body/Head, x.o.4, Vampire Belt, Ceylon Mange, Northampton Wools) first played together in Anna Rampage with Paul Flaherty & Ben Karetnick in 2006. Since that time they have performed in trios with Jake Meginsky and Chris Corsano, in quartets with Corsano & Paul Flaherty and Wally Shoup & Greg Campbell, and, starting in 2011, as a duo. They toured the East Coast/Mid-West in 2012 with Matt Krefting and released a split cassette with Krefting for the occasion on Nace's Open Mouth imprint. Open Mouth also released an LP of their quartet with Wally Shoup & Greg Campbell in 2015. Utilizing an array of extended instrumental techniques, amplification and effects pedals, Kelley and Nace have allowed themselves an extensive palette to work with and set no boundaries as to where it will bring them. Delicate sound fields may slowly unfold only to then disintegrate into waves of tumult. Tumult may then bore itself into a maze of soft refrigerators.

In 2014, Kelley relocated from Boston to Seattle and in early 2016, Nace temporarily relocated from Northampton, MA to Los Angeles. To mark the occasion, they are embarking on a West Coast tour.

2/18/16: Shoup/Campbell/Kelley at the Chapel

8pm, Thursday February 18, 2016

$5-$15 donation at the door Chapel Performance Space at the Good Shepherd Center 4649 Sunnyside Avenue North, Seattle, WA 98103

Three experienced Seattle musicians come together to fine tune the art of improvisation. Alto saxist Wally Shoup, trumpeter Greg Kelley, and percussionist Greg Campbell integrate adventurous chops with keen ears and a deep sense of the laminal to create spontaneous coherences that move at the speed of response. This combination of far-ranging brass and woodwind textures, coupled with subtly shifting rhythms will perfectly suit the rich acoustical environment of the Chapel.
