Shows, recent past...
A couple of shows I failed to publicize/log in this space...
On Halloween night, Saturday, October 31st, I had the pleasure of sitting in with Eyvind Kang & Jessika Kenney at Seattle's Teatro de la Psychomachia on a set of pieces from Viscous Circle, which we will be fleshing out further with an ensemble of 17 at the Frye Art Museum on Thursday, December 3rd. Vocalists Kristy White & Nikko Olajoyegbe rounded out that night's quintet and will also be part of the Frye performance.
On Saturday, November 7th, I had the great pleasure of playing again with Wayne Rogers & Kate Village as Heathen Shame as part of the Boston Hassle Fest 7 at the Brighton Music Hall in lovely Allston, MA. Not a board mix, but it went a little something like this...

"Recorded during a recent trek to the Pacific Northwest, this session is very damaged by the post-tongue explosive devices packed by each of the quartet's members. Skittering along the most devious edge of improvisational madness, Greg, Greg, Bill and Mr. Shoup bring four chunks of deep underground moisture into the air for the first time. Let us make to examine them. 'Morning' greets the listener beneath a raucous grackle filled tree, mounting to a commuters' rage. Then along comes a mage with mushrooms, and the growl and rasp spreads out into what one must imagine a stoned rabbit's brain records from a dawn. In 'Separating a door from a window', Mr. Shoup's sax limns the wall of sound into permeable spaces. The horns and percussion throw up bramble hollers of humorous squawk, but in the end, Wally is triumphant. Like smoke snaking over the door, 'Transom' is a very present and seductive piece. If you are a programmer, this is an excellent sound experience to loop, as it is both loving and bossy. Horn and reed lead you into 'Nothing is deprived of its warmth,' and then gleefully pierce your eardrums with needles. Once the path has been cleared to your brain, molten notes are poured in and, like a Dead Head prostrate with his pipe, you become one with the universe. A warm universe. At first I thought it was weird they named this album after the lost book of Tolkien's Silmarillion. Now I'm not so sure." -- Lili Dwight/Byron Coley, Deerfield MA 2015

Hound Dog Taylor's Hand "...Seattle's secret weapon against the tech squares and yuppie droolers! Jeffery Taylor (Climax Golden Twins) spins tall 6-string tales with his guitar and the crowd bows down before an ascended master. Vets of the NW improv-wars, Mark Ostrowski, and John Seman unleash a barrage of sounds via drums and stand-up bass that toss genres like dirty underwear, leaving the inner ear dizzy and thirsting for more...lots more. It's equal parts groovy, LOUD, and out there for more than just a minute. Live, improvised chanteys for squirming larvae everywhere..." - Eidertown Records
Shoup - Kelley - Campbell Debut performance by this sax, trumpet, percussion trio which has been woodshedding in private for a year before unleashing it's squirrelly, post-harmolodics upon the public. They have a quartet LP with Bill Nace forthcoming on Open Mouth Records.
Dave Webb "Walking into Vermillion last night to check out Table & Chairs’ improv monthly, I was instantly riveted by a longhaired dude seated in the back bar area, playing his Gibson Firebird to a sparse, rapt crowd. It was Dave Webb, guitarist for 'technical metal' band Spacebag, ex-member of the phenomenal Seattle heavy-rock mavericks Girth and Wah Wah Exit Wound. He was in the midst of an emotionally wrenching display of guitar virtuosity that brought to mind the late Funkadelic axe master Eddie Hazel. Webb’s rapid, graceful fingerings and slides evoked a beautiful, lachrymose solitude. There were also passages of sweet, baroque balladry of Hendrixian poignancy and dexterity (think 'Little Wing') and an aching allusion to 'My Favorite Things.'" – The Stranger, 10/9/14
